Archive for December 2018

Hi wonderful people
we are more than half way through December already, the year of 2018 is almost over, and wow what a year it has been. My year has been such a transformative journey, with many positives, some negatives, but all summed up; together they have made it a great year, both good and bad. We all go through different stages of our life, this year has been mostly focusing on truly connecting myself with myself, and seeking for what I should spend my time doing. Which is really and endless journey as we and everything is constantly changing.

This past year has been a true transformation and reflecting back on my state of mind a year ago, I feel so grateful for where I am with myself right now.

I´m going to end the year much more mindfully than how my last year ended, I will spend the whole christmas period and New Years at a small meditation ashram in the bushes of Australia without technology. I´m doing 10 days of karma yoga, which means I will be working at the ashram a few hours everyday and then all my free time will be dedicated to deepening my meditation and yoga practise, focus inwards and give myself time to manifest new things for the beginning of the new year. I will spend a  month in Australia, catching up with friends and escaping winter for a litte while, I also have amazing things happening when I get back to Norway, which I will share with you in the beginning of the new year.

I believe that we all need to take responsibility for our own happiness, joy, or future and life here and now, so to me it was not really hard to make the decision to not celebrate christmas, it is something I´ve been becoming more aware of the last couple of years. Reflecting upon it; christmas means very little to me. The typical christmas traditions, especially the food are so far from my ethical standards that it feels nothing but right to chose to not participate this year, I feel that its time for me to start new traditions.

What ever you choose to do for the rest of the year, I do hope you do it mindfully with intention and loads of love.

Close your eyes, take a deep breath in and a long steady breath out. Then ask yourself without judgement, simply with curiosity and an open mind;
“When was the last time I approached Christmas in a mindful conscious way?”

Take another deep round of breath, and ask yourself;

How can I make December & Christmas more mindful and conscious?

Most of us are wanting more peace and mindfulness in our lives, more time with people we care about and more joy, but often we still get caught up in the traditional christmas chaos of expectations, more gifts, more parties, new dresses and more unhealthy and unethical food. I believe if we focus less on what the mainstream December usually looks like, and take a few simple steps towards a more mindful approach; you will find more peace, mindfulness quality time with loved one´s and joy.

SELF CARE
I cant say this enough, make sure you have time to look after yourself and do things for yourself and being kind and gentle towards yourself. Practise yoga, get time alone, take a bath anything that feels good for you.

QUALITY TIME VS ENDLESS CHRISTMAS PARTIES
We all get invited to all these parties, and for some reason we always feel guilty if we dont go, so we feel like we have to go to please everyone else. Start taking control over your own wants and needs, and simply say NO, if you dont want  to go. In my opinion I rather spend quality time with the people I really wanna spend time with than sit around a table and have conversations that give me nothing.

THE GIFTS…
Skip the bullshit gifts, if you really wanna give something, give with meaning and love: Homemade food, skin care, candles etc. Experiences for yours loved one´s, maybe even for you to join with them; theatre, cinema, home-cooked dinner and wine night, spa package, baby sitting, only your imagination can stop you there.

GIVE TIME TO THOSE IN NEED
Give your time to people who really need it, or donate blankets, buy a cup of coffee to a homeless person, go to a animal shelter and give your time there, maybe even let the man who is offering to polish your shoes on the street polish your shoes. All life matter so we need to look after each other.

FOOD CONSCIOUSNESS
Eat healthier, more plants and maybe its time to start your own new christmas food traditions, because sometimes it is completely ok to ditch old and approach new. If you do chose to have a vegan christmas I can guarantee you that your mind and your body will feel much more fulfilled and happy.

Most important dont follow the rules and do christmas a certain way just because other people are doing it, do what is right for you.
