Happy sparkling holidays from this gypsy in the north.

Hope everyone are having good time with family, friends or others they may be spending time with. I´m home in Larvik for a few days, then going back to Oslo for a few days working before flying off to London celebrating the new year.

I had a sparkling christmas eve, wearing an a amazing vintage sequin dress, there is not enough happenings to wear such a dress, so I love it when I can go all in.

Enjoy your holidays and look after each other

The winter season is months and months of wearing knitwear, most of the time jumpers, but why not also wear knitted skirts and dresses? I´m a skirt & dress girl, I rarely wear pants so wearing skirt during winter is bound to happen. Being back in Norway, the winters are a bit colder than what I´m used to, so I need to wear warmer stockings and also adding some warm wool skirts or dresses to the wardrobe helps.

……

This season I inherited many warm skirt from my grandmother, including this homemade knitted skirt, which is absolutely gorgeous.

Finding a good quality wool skirt can be difficult, I´ve seen the best options at vintage & OP shops. You get something unique, most likely a really good quality if you choose the once you see look old and you save the environment a little.

The last week has been pretty cold, windy and it has been snowing as well, so I´ve joined the “parkas community”. I always prefer wearing nice coats and jackets, but sometimes you just have to give in for keeping warm and comfortable.  I had a good winter parkas from Fjellreven, but I were wanting something even bigger and longer. I found the perfect one from a Scandinavian brand called Samsøe Samsøe, no leather details and no down.

PERFECT

I sold my old jacket, and invested in a new one, as I would not see the point in having two almost identical jackets for the same use, so someone esle can be happy with my old jacket is perfect.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my super oversized faux fur coat, that my grandma gave to me 6 years ago. It is probably from when she was in her 30s, so it has had a long life. I´m keeping it safe and sound, so hopefully I can pass it on to someone else when I feel to old to wear it.

Vintage and clothes passed on by older relatives are just amazing, don´t take it for granted, keep it in mind next time you consider getting rid of something special you have.

On Sunday I attended a clothing swap event, organised by an environmental group here in Norway, “The future in our hands”. You had to bring up to 7 things, in relative good condition, then you would be able to pick as many “new” items as you handed in. The leftover clothes got donated to charity.

Clothing swap is a great way to lower your consumption habits and save the environment for a little less pollution. All our decisions and actions matter.

“Vi kjøper rundt 70.000 tonn nye klær hvert år her i landet.

“We purchase approximately 70.000 ton of new clothes every year in Norway. Our clothing-buying habits are really bad for the the environment. Every piece of cloth creates between 1-17 kg og co2, depending on the material it is made off. Compared to 1995 the prices for clothes are 63 prosent lower, and we throw 79 prosent more clothing every year. Not only creating I high amount og c02, the clothes are also produced with many chemicals, harming both environment, the humans and animals.”

I only ended up with four “new” items, but I´m perfectly happy with that, as I got to clean up a little, improve our environment a little and support a charity.

The first snow of the year have arrived in Oslo, it fell on Tuesday and it was magical. So now I feel like I dont need an excuse to wear knits everyday.

…….

This pink and purple were knitted by my grandma maybe 30 years ago, and it is so beautiful. We found it hidden away in the basement, so I´m really exited that I get to bring it back to life again.
Almost all types of styles/trends will be a trend again, or loved by someone else, so never toss anything.
The amount of clothes ending up in landfill is enormous, so unnecessary as most thinks should be given a second chance. Either donate to charity, sell it give it away or simply keep it until you maybe wanna wear it again, your style and taste will circulate.

Just like this jumper from my grandmother have now done.

A new week starting off with amazing sunshine and fresh air.
I´m off today so started the week with a good walk with one of my really good friends around a lake in our neighbourhood then cleaning, listening to podcasts and planning blog posts and planning the week.

……

A few weeks ago we started going through my grandmas clothes, so there were a lot of really beautiful and good quality vintage garments that we have decided to keep. Most of it is still at my mums house, as we have decided to pick a few things at a time, dividing between my sister, my mum and I. So I only brought a couple of pieces with me to Oslo last time I was home, including a really beautiful leather skirt and an awesome vintage set; a skirt and jumper.

Vintage and inherited clothes are in my opinion hundred times better than buying new clothes. it has a story to tell, quality is very often much better, as the fashion industry today is not focused on quality and it is so much better for our environment.

Half way through the week, it has overall been work, exercise and adjusting to the cold weather and the shorter days. I have a feeling it will be along winter, I can´t remember what a real winter feels like.
Think it will be a bit of a challenge.

…..

As I have not really lived through a winter in five years, I dont have that many winter clothes anymore. I do have some quality clothes and shoes, but not enough for these long winters we face here in the north. Therefore I´m slowly going to build up a sustainable autumn & winter wardrobe.
Purchasing clothes from mindful brands, with high quality fabrics and my favourite; finding secondhand/vintage treasures.

Knit and scarf are both from Norwegian brand Arnie Says, who are very focused on using high quality natural fabrics and high standard production in Europe. (Knit was given as a gift at work.)

Hi lovelies

Happy weekend to everyone, I´m currently sitting at my mums kitchen table, enjoying some hot lemon & ginger water watching all the beautiful colours outside. I´m home for a long weekend, spending time with family, helping my granddad going through some of my grandmas personal belongings. I still have this kind of hope that she is just away for a long holiday, so going through her belongings, is suddenly making it all so real…

…..

The third autumn month is just around the corner, so layer up season are defiantly here and it is just getting colder. Jens took some really nice photos for me the other day, as the light was great, and all the colours were magical. Real autumn is one of the great things I´ve missed these past five years as Sydney autumn is nothing special.

“Coppers, golds, and rusted tones,
Mother Nature’s way of letting go.
They fall and gather one by one,
Autumn is here, summer has gone.

Crunching as I walk through their warm fiery glow,
Nature’s carpet rich and pure that again shall grow,
To protect and shield its majestic tree,
Standing tall and strong for the world to see.”
